Design Ideas / Materials

This page is to familiarize our customers in on the trends and styles selected by many of the designers we have teamed with. Stepping away from traditional approach, designers are favoring wider planks 5" or more inches in width.

What is hot is the old, 15 hundreds to the 18 hundreds (hand carves & rustic aged antique flooring). Virginia Vintage - Vineyard - Time Worn - Kahrs hand carved - Anderson Dellamano - Pinnacle hand carved - Adventure hand-carved

No matter where this type of flooring is installed, in a converted warehouse loft or in a brand new constructed home, this product creates an atmosphere of historic sense. Every time we complete a project using these aged and hand carved flooring, when the job is complete it seems like our great grandfather was the one who constructed this project decades ago.

For those of us who have ambitions with colors, natural maple is the floor of choice. Depending on reflections of light and color of walls and furniture, maple flooring seems to constantly change in color and tone. It is very difficult to be bored with natural maple and other light colored floors because they offer the most designing options. Designers who like to manipulate colors are preferring the wide maple planks or other light natural wood floor. Anderson Patagonian Pecan Natural & Northern Maple plank - BR111 6.5" wide maple natural - Pinnacle 5" maple natural

One other hot item is Exotic hardwood flooring. 99% of these products are natural and rich in colors and textures. They are selecting Amendoim for it's forest appearance to Santos Mahogany for it's rich redness to Sucupira for its dark and natural rich color. Decorating possibilities are endless. BR111 Exotic - Timberline Collection - Hartco Valenza Collection

Most Exotic hardwood has impressive pressure rating, some are three to four times as stronger than Red Oak. One other benefit is that some of these species get darker and richer when exposed to direct sunlight versus Northern Species which tends to fade and get bleached by the sunlight.

For those of us who are environmentally conscious, there is an alternative choosing. It is Bamboo. Timberline Collection This product is considered one of the most environmental friendly products. It normally takes decades for other hardwood to grow before it is big enough to be used as a building material. On the other hand Bamboo only takes a few years if not less, before it can be used. Once matured, bamboo is cut down, its root system would produce another sprout, and in no time at all it is ready for harvest. Oak, Pine and so on would have a slim chance to survive after it is cut. If it does manage to survive, it would take decades before it is consumable.

Beyond its durability and abundance, is its beauty. The rich, warm tones of the carbonized caramel color, to the warm natural hues of neutral blond color, with growth patterns, grains, and growth joints, inherent only in bamboo; makes it truly an exquisite product that enriches the environment of any home or business.

Bamboo is best used for flooring of a room that is not susceptible to water spills or high moisture. Timberline Flooring discourages the use of bamboo for the bathroom and kitchen. This is due to the fact that Bamboo reacts to moisture very rapidly. Bamboo's stability is compromised if it is situated on a floor too close to ground level, which could expose the Bamboo to excessive moisture. Cracks, gaps and warping may occur if water is not cleaned up immediately off of the surface of the Bamboo planks. It is recommended that Bamboo flooring products be installed in perhaps an upstairs game room or an upstairs bedroom or over some sort of moisture barrier.

For those of us who have kids or pets and love the beauty of wood floor, there is also a wonderful product call laminates. It resembles the likeness of wood but has far better resistance to the abuse. Carpet is no match for kids and pets, wood is a little too delicate, but with laminates there is no problem. Most laminates are resistant to scratches, dents, fades, burns, and now even gaps. Thanks to Pergo these products have become a life saver with a price tag that is very affordable.

For heavy duty traffic and application where water spill is the daily occurences, we recommend Stone or Tile products. It makes perfect sense to rely on products that has tested time. We accomodate custom Stone fabrication, Back Splash, and Installation of assorted configurations.

At Timberline Flooring we strive to provide the best service possible. That means giving our customer the lowest price with the speed of Houston's life and not sacrificing workmanship quality. All of our work come with a one year warranty, so don't hesitate to count on us.

For a number of years now we have been working directly with designers. The results of our work and their expertise have comprised into many fascinating work of arts. Their skills and aesthetic knowledge, combined with our professional sales and installations services have created a spectacular atmosphere for the home owner.

Working with great designers has opened our eyes and brought us to a higher sense of appreciation for nature and random inconsistency of color and design.

There have been many projects where our customers request that we comb through the materials and remove all inconsistent pieces; pieces that occur naturally with its own character. These were pieces with knots, shades darker in color, mineral marks, and the like. The output was a beautiful consistent floor. Less exciting and natural but it was still beautiful. Just imagine the possibility.
